Juried Exhibition, Silent Auction and Reception on April 25th and May 1st

St. James Episcopal Church in North Salem, NY, is a historic parish that is deeply bound to the beginnings of this country, serving the wider North Salem community since its founding almost 300 years ago. St. James strives to be a beacon of hope for everyone in the community, whoever and wherever they are on life’s journey, especially during turbulent times. An essential element of St. James’ mission is to serve as a site of celebration and solace. Equally significant is the church’s involvement in local outreach programs, including the Brewster Food Pantry, Brewster Cares, Women’s Prison Ministry, the North Salem Open Land Foundation and more.
ART FOR ACTION, founded by the church in 2024, is a juried art exhibition and silent auction that supports St. James’ outreach through the sale of art and a ticketed cocktail reception. The third annual ART FOR ACTION will be held on Saturday, April 25th from 5:30 to 8:00 pm. The reception will feature live music, hors d’oeuvres, and specialty cocktails. A second viewing and silent auction will take place at a reception on Saturday, May 1st from 12:30 to 3:00 pm.
Concurrent with its mission of serving as a community of hope, St. James invites local artists working across all media to consider the theme of “hope” and respond by submitting work(s) that reflect what hope means to them. Artists are encouraged to submit 1 to 3 works, juried by esteemed art advisor and curator Janis Gardner Cecil, a member of St. James. Submissions will be accepted March 9 to April 15. Notifications will be sent by April 17. All accepted entries should be delivered to St. James Village Hall, 296 Titicus Road, North Salem, NY on Friday, April 24 between 12:30 and 3:00 pm. Artists must collect unsold work on Saturday, May 1 between 3:00 and 5:00 pm.
Artwork guidelines:
Artist may submit 1 to 3 works for consideration using the form below. All types of media are welcome. Two-dimensional art must be framed and wired for installation.
Each submission must contain the Artist’s name, date, title, medium, dimensions, price, digital image, artist’s statement and bio. Submit digital JPEG files with a minimum resolution of 300 DPI and a maximum file size of 5MB. Works valued at more than $2,500.00 cannot be accepted.
Publicity:
St. James Church will publicize the event in print media, social media and printed invitations. Each selected artist will receive a number of printed invitations. Artists are encouraged to publicize Art For Action on social media, #stjameschurchnsny, #stjamesnorthsalemny, #stjamesns,com. St. James will promote artist’s work on social media.
Sales: St. James Church will receive a 30% donation for artwork sold during the ART FOR ACTION and 30 days following the close of show. All proceeds from ART FOR ACTION benefit St. James Episcopal Church to support the church’s Outreach Programs and the historic Buildings and Grounds Capital Fund.
